Hainan has started piloting E-ticket in its island-looping high-speed line, reports the China News Service.
The latest trial allows people to check in without producing a paper ticket, which was previously necessary even for passengers who have bought tickets online.
Hainan locals who succeed in purchasing an island-looping high-speed ticket will have access to an information sheet, which includes a QR code.
They can pass through the turnstile by swiping the QR code, whether via an electronic or printed version. The turnstile will be opened if it’s available E-ticket after verification. The turnstile gate will be still closed with alarm if it’s illegal ticket. It’s much more convenient than normal paper ticket and not easy to lose.
This is reportedly part of China's move towards "paperless tickets" and is expected to see a nationwide promotion according to Chinese railway authorities.
